Verifying unobstructed flow ensures there are no blockages in piping or nozzles that would prevent the agent from reaching all areas as designed. Checking valve positions confirms the actuation sequence and ensures the release devices will open when commanded, allowing the agent to be discharged properly. Because successful discharge requires both a clear path and correct valve operation, the puff test is used to confirm both aspects.
